FAQs

Do candles cause air pollution?

Soy or beeswax candles are highly recommended as they are more natural and do not cause any real harm to your health or air quality. Soy is renewable, biodegradable, and lasts longer than paraffin candles.

How can one tell whether a candle has a lead-core wick?

Rub a piece of paper on the top of an unused metal wick, it will leave a grey mark similar to a pencil mark. The majority of wicks manufactured in Canada and the U.S. are made of 100% cotton.

What are the typical ingredients in a candle?

A candle consists of wax and a wick but can also contain dyes or pigments for colour, fragrances or essential oils for scent, botanicals for a decorative element, as well as other ingredients.

How do you fix a wick that won’t stay lit?

Sometimes this happens, the wick needs more space from the wax. The best solution is to dab any excess wax out of the jar with a paper towel or pour some out. Make sure your wick is free from any botanicals, debris, or wick trimmings.

How long should my wick be?

If your wick is too short it may burn too slow, not burn at all, or drown in a pool of wax. It is best to use a wick trimmer and trim your wick 1/4 inch.
